I’m using a new laptop now and recently downloaded the yahoo messenger 8.0 on it to enable me chat with my friends. But, every time i chat, my image display box is black or blank and all efforts to put my pictures or one of the default pictures proves abortive. The display box remains blank. The straightforward answer is to go to Messenger Preferences Display Image, and then check Enable Display Images. Then press the Change Default… button under My Display Image. When the next window comes up (titled My Display Image), click the Share My Picture option (or if you prefer Share My Avatar). Finally, make sure you have a valid picture displaying. If not, click the Select… button to choose which picture you want to show when you have a conversation.
Now, if you already did all that and you are still having problems, I’m not sure what to suggest. Maybe select a different picture?
